How It Works
So, how does this life coaching San Antonio process work? Coaching depends heavily on the powerful relationship between coach and client. If the coach and client are a good match, this relationship will be strengthened over the coaching journey. Through attentiveness, listening well, maintaining a safe environment, and communicating truthfully, trust and the strength of the client-coach relationship is built over time. This allows the coach to facilitate growth for the client as they work toward specific goals.
It is important, as one enters the coaching journey, to understand what coaching is not. Some of the other practices which might be confused with coaching include consulting, counseling, and even mentoring.
Consulting pertains to situations where a particular expertise is needed to address a need, such as a technical skill and a subject matter expertise is obtained to assist and resolve an issue in that arena. Counseling, most often confused with coaching, has a focus on specific challenges and often looks backwards to diagnose and address an issue to pursue understanding and healing so a client might eventually move forward. Mentoring brings into play our personal experiences and fosters an environment of encouragement but often includes showing the mentee how to do something. Mentoring is also informal and focused on development generally speaking and has the potential to be a longer term relationship. Live on Purpose Coaching Process | Life Coaching San Antonio
Whether participating in one-on-one, team, or group coaching sessions, the process is similar.
The Assessment.
All coaching clients are encouraged to take an initial assessment – the CliftonStrengths® assessment – which provides a baseline as the coaching process begins. Whether you are participating in individual coaching or team/group every client is provided with a personalized out brief where your specific assessment results will be reviewed. This allows the client to fully understand the results, ask any questions they may have, as well as begin to process and appreciate these findings.
Team or Group Time.
If participating with a team or group, results will be reviewed in the larger setting. For teams specifically this allows for a deeper understanding of the folks with whom they operate on a regular basis. Some simple tools and references are leveraged to communicate the results. The team will go through some steps to ensure they understand their own and others’ strengths. Team members often have “aha” moments where past interactions with teammates make more sense as they gain a deeper understanding of one another.
There is also an opportunity to strategize specifically for this team in order to move toward the success measures they have established as well as identify individual partnerships within the team to further develop and leverage their specific talents.
For groups, it is a helpful way to better understand themselves but also to gain valuable context of folks with other talent themes different from themselves and how people process information and behave differently and why.
For groups of younger people, these sessions will take a slightly different approach. It will depend on the situation and the adult leadership (parent, teacher/leader) preferences. A planning consultation is conducted to ensure each group’s particular needs are met.
Regardless of team or group composition, each individual will receive an extended introductory session where client and coach will cover intake background information and review the assessment results to ensure understanding, answer any questions, and identify opportunities for going forward.
Additionally, for adult teams or groups, each participant will have access to two one-on-one coaching sessions as well as an extended wrap-up session which includes a progress check and goal setting among other activities. For the youth/student group setting, this again will be customized to fit the needs of that particular group, however, the same basic sessions are available for youth – introductory session, two one-on-one sessions, and a wrap-up session as they go forward.
In some cases, there is a preference to engage in individual versus team or group coaching. In this situation for adults, the format is similar, but all sessions are personalized one-on-one life coaching San Antonio sessions and include six sessions instead of two, as well as the introductory and wrap-up sessions. Often, clients will choose to extend further than this standard timeframe, which is always an option and is worked out with the coach.
If personalized coaching is requested at the youth level, the parent is consulted and will be included as desired. With youth coaching, three sessions are leveraged to start as well as the introductory and wrap-up sessions. The coach will confer with the involved adult to determine if any additional coaching is needed and desired.
